The brief

Wimborne Bid came to CW Marketing to tender for the design and development of the new Wimborne town website. The brief was to create an attractive, intuitive design in line with their brand values, be user-friendly, responsive and easy for the Bid team to make basic amends.

The site would be used by people wanting to find out more about visiting the town, such as:

  • Travel information
  • Attractions and things to do
  • Where to eat and drink
  • Shops
  • Search for businesses in the town
  • Comprehensive events calendar

We were thrilled when we were selected to create the site, especially as it’s our home town!

The design process

Following various planning meetings with the Bid team, and working in line with the Wimborne Bid’s basic brand guidelines, our designers went about creating the look for the site with an initial custom homepage and category page design. Once tweaked and agreed, we went about doing offline designs for the rest of the key pages.

When designing the site, it was important to ensure the navigation of the site would be simple for the user, with the use of an icon-based menu structure, main and subcategories and easy search and filter tools.

It was also important to ensure that the businesses on the site had an attractive profile page with a gallery of images, logo, business overview and contact information.

Development & functionality

To ensure the website continues to look ‘alive’ with fresh content, the homepage has an Instagram feed and featured events listings.

The events calendar has the functionality to search for events by dates and category and includes information about the event, location and booking information etc. Businesses featured on the site have the opportunity to submit their own event listings to be featured.

The custom levy payer log-in area of the website allows users to update their business profile, and submit their own news articles and events listings.

The client has an administrator account that allows them to create user accounts, make basic edits across the site and is able to easily approve submitted news articles and events.

The result

Both CW Marketing and Wimborne Bid are extremely happy with the end result of a few months of planning and hard work from both sides! The website went live on the 1st June 2022 with a bang and received lots of press and social media coverage.

The site has received fantastic feedback from both users and Bid levy members who have been busy updating their business profiles and uploading events and news to the website.

Visitor numbers and time spent on the site have both increased significantly.

“Since appointing CW Marketing to create our new website we have been impressed with their approach, attention to detail and the ideas they have come up with to enhance the experience our website offers. They really understood our needs, and how our customers will use the site. We would have no hesitation recommending them and look forward to continuing our relationship with the team at CW Marketing.”  – Tammy Sleet, Wimborne Bid Manager
